Bordeaux: the EMF Observatory is up and running!

Publié le 9 December 2020

On the initiative of the French National Frequencies Agency (ANFR) and in partnership with the City of Bordeaux, EXEM recently installed its first three sensors in the city.

The aim is to measure exposure to electromagnetic fields as part of the roll-out of 5G nationwide, prior to the network’s arrival in Bordeaux, using this “pilot service”.

After Paris, Marseille and Nantes, it's now Bordeaux's turn to deploy the EMF Observatory sensors.

Bordeaux residents who wish to benefit from the EMF Observatory will now be able to access all the results measured continuously at www.emf-observatory.com. Designed and developed by EXEM, this wave monitoring system is designed to help local authorities provide answers to questions from the general public about their exposure to electromagnetic fields.

It is based on the deployment of a network of very low-speed communicating sensors that make the data accessible as and when required (several measurements are taken daily).

Delphine Jamet, deputy mayor of Bordeaux, responsible for general administration, the evaluation of public policies and data strategy, emphasises that this is a transparent tool that responds above all to the concerns of Bordeaux citizens, and that it is above all a question of individual responsibility. “We want to set up this electromagnetic field observatory so that we can compare exposure levels before and after the launch of 5G”.

The EMF Observatory, an impartial and reliable tool to shed light on the social debate

In the context of the rapid digital transformation of our society, the EMF Observatory is an impartial and reliable tool for shedding light on the societal debate that pits economic development against environmental and public health concerns.
